Volvo B10B M902DRG

Making its rally debut at the 2011 Seaburn rally as a preserved bus, former Stagecoach North East and originally Busways, Volvo B10B, M902DRG. The bus was withdrawn from service in the spring of 2011 and has been acquired by the Tyne and Wear bus preservation group who plan to restore it to its former glory.

Originally one of a pair of Alexander ‘Strider’ bodied Volvo B10Bs bought for evaluation by Busways in 1994, in latter years the vehicle was allocated to Stagecoach’s South Shields depot and was no stranger to Seaburn, passing through the area quite regularly when working Stagecoach’s coastal sevices E1, E2 and E6 between South Shields and Sunderland.

Based on the Volvo Citybus chassis, only two Alexander RVC coaches were ever built and neither survive. To my knowledge there are two models in existence, which were built by Frank Cumming; one was for his own collection and the only other for Wardonian Buses. The latter ended up with Capital & Provincial Busways, who were finally persuaded to sell it to Quicksilver’s ever-growing collection of obscure double-deck coaches. I believe the RVC was based around the standard RV bus body but with a very different appearance to make it into a proper coach.
